10 fresh ways to monetize your blog

We just love blogs for many reasons. We read them, learn from them, use them to promote our brands, and sometimes do them as a hobby. If you find the right niche, the right topic and the right tone, your blog can be popular as well. And if it’s popular, there is only one step towards to monetize your blog.

1. Consulting

If you’re looking for a way to start making money within the shortest period of time, offer consulting.

It doesn’t matter when you started blogging or how much traffic you have — offering a coaching service can bring you money.

The major reason why offering consultation in your topic can help you earn extra money is because people want to learn new skills, or improve in certain areas.

While you are writing your blog posts, research relevant info on the internet, you become an expert in your topic. People admire that expertise, and could probably use it in their own lives. You can attract clients with your blog and schedule them for one-on-one sessions, charging an hourly rate for your services.

Consulting is a very popular way in these days to make money with your blog. With these services, you charge a fee to give more information about your topic to readers. For example, let’s say you blog about gardening. You could charge $75 for a one-hour Skype session where you discuss about how to create a beautiful front yard, how to decorate your garden, or how to get rid of pests in a natural way. Along with the Skype call, you might send a full written report via email on how to maintain and build it in their everyday life.

2. Affiliate Marketing

If done this right, this method is a great way to make some extra cash with your blog.

Affiliate marketing is one of the most popular and maybe the quickest ways to make money.

Start by finding a product you like and would recommend and that is relevant to your topic.

As the blogger, you include links to this product or service offered through another business’s affiliate program. If one of your readers click on it and end up purchasing the product, you earn a commission.

How much you can earn on a sale like this? It depends on your partner and the affiliate program.

If you’re interested in getting started, there are a lot of possible partners you can work with. The most common is to use Amazon’s affiliate marketing program, which is one of the biggest platform, and it’s easy to work with. Not to mention, you can select from thousands of products.

3. Create your own product

If you have a product that you have made, then why not sell it on your website. It can be a digital product, such like an ebook, a video course, an app, a coaching service, or a physical product. But you can sell other people’s product too; we will talk in the next lecture. If they are popular, there might be a full-time business for them!

The good thing about this is that compared with selling a product in a shop that has a small customer basis, online you have the world to sell your product to. That’s because there’s no middle-man or person in between you and the buyer that’s taking a ‘cut’ from the money earned.

Any product that will help them after you have established a level of trust with them should be shared with them. Help them achieve their goals by recommending the same products and services that helped you.

4. Ebooks

Everybody can write an eBook these days, so why don’t you give it a try.  Creating your own e-books is a great way to earn an income through your blog, especially if you prefer writing to speaking.

Writing eBooks is a super popular way to start selling a unique product on your expertise, and they can be useful to any niche. As it’s in digital format, it’s easy to get your book published and ready to sell with major retailers like Amazon or directly on your site. You don’t have to worry about shipping and handling.

You could write an eBook about almost anything.

The good thing about writing and making money from Kindle books is that there are already millions of buyers who are ready to buy from Amazon.

5. Be a freelance-blogger

Brands are desperately looking for bloggers with the relevant skillsets. And becoming a freelance blogger can transform your financial life.

According to Neil Pletel:

65% of freelancers believe their life as a freelancer has improved over the last year. About 19% of freelancers made more than $50,000 last year, including about 5% who earned six figures. And 62.5% of freelancers do it full time, with no side project (e.g., a job).

A freelance writer is a professional who writes articles, plog posts, social media updates on different topics for websites, emails, landing pages for a company or companies.

But a freelance blogger is especially skilled at understanding the audience of a particular blog, and creating content that will put them into action.

6. Host A Webinar

Webinars are basically a live workshops online. People people will listen to your Webinars where you talk about your specific topic. This is great for people that live far, and can’t get to a real time workshop.

You make money from Webinar’s by charging an individual for a virtual seat on your presentation. They pay to watch you and listening to you perform your presentation online and they can interact during the process by leaving comments and questions in a chat surface.

Usually there is a sales pitch at the end of the webinar, where you can promote your relevant offer.

Webinars can be done with power point presentations, web-cams, animated slideshow,  etc., making them engaging to your audience. Questions are usually answered till the end of the Webinar, or during the presentation if they are relevant.

There are pre-recorded webinars as well, however people don’t like it that much than a live show. If you choose to stream a pre-recorded webinar, be sure to not to greet fake viewers during your presentation (pretending that they are just joined), and don’t write fake questions in the chat box.

7.  Membership site

A membership site is when your subscribers pay a monthly fee to access some sort of exclusive content that is available only for members. Typically, you would update the site every 2-4 weeks with new materials for your subscribers to watch, read, or download or all of them. Membership sites can work well for just about any niche out there and are a great way to have monthly income.

Membership sites only work for people who are willing to maintain the site and consistently add new content each month.

Most membership sites, do not keep members for very long.Based on experiences of membership site creators and companies who teach membership site, the typical lifetime of an average member is three months.

You might be questioning how a membership site can become an ongoing, and stable income stream if members come and go?

Most people think that the key for success with a membership site is attracting members, but that’s not entirely true. Yes, you have to market your site in order to get new members, but this is just half of the job. It’s important to learn how to KEEP your members in your site.

This is how Digital Marketer’s membership site looks from inside. Take a look at the menu, and how much information they give to their readers

8. Online courses

You don’t need many leads or high traffic to make money with your online course.

For example, you may be an expert in social media marketing. You could set up a 2 week online training course detailing how to use the different social platforms. You could make videos describing all of the different social media sites that they might need for their business, techniques how to manage them, and how to drive traffic.

Find out exactly what your visitors want and create a course from there. Online courses are focused on a  very specific subject or topic.

People like buying online courses, even when they can find the same information for free. They want somebody who collects the best information and practices in the topic they want to learn.

So don’t be afraid to create your own online course – even on a topic that’s been covered online.

9. Product reviews

You can write detailed reviews about products and publish them on your blog. Or a comparison blog post, with links to the products in it. It is better to review products that are related to your topic, as you are catering to your target audience.

Nothing makes a product review sound more authentic than actually using the product.

It allows you to create content easily by simply writing about what you see, feel and do.

Plus, it gives you the opportunity to add unique elements to your content like images and videos.

How do you write a review about a product you’ve never used?

You take information from other sources and then add your own opinion on what you think it might be like.

In your review, feature the positive and the negative sides of the product as well.

10. Donations

Robert Maning says:

“A method that a lot of people don’t even think of, donations can provide an alternate source of income from your website. You can get a donate button from PayPal to place on your site and ask people to donate a small amount to you for the service that you provide. If you help people for free, are active on your blog’s comments, and provide much more information that you did in your blog, it’s a great way to earn some extra cash as it allows readers to donate a small amount of money if they feel that you have helped them in some way.” This is how Wikipedia works.

Some people may not like the idea of this, but the advantage of this method is that it can be easily set up and left. If people want to donate anything then they can, if not they don’t have to. You’ll be surprised how many people are willing to give you some money if you have genuinely helped them.
