Facebook has officially started rolling out a new feed function on mobile and desktop. First, they beta tested the new feed in a handful of countries, but now it’s being official rolled out.
It’s called the “Explore Feed”.
Standard posts from friends and Pages are in your News Feed, while the Explore Feed includes posts, articles, photos, videos from pages that you don’t currently follow, but might catch your interest. It’s essentially a News Feed made up of content Facebook thinks you’ll be interested in.
If things continue this way, the Explore Feed could become much more engaging than the News Feed.
“We are beginning to roll out a complimentary feed of popular articles, videos, and photos, automatically customized for each person based on content that might be interesting to them. We’ve heard from people that they want an easy way to explore relevant content from Pages they haven’t connected with yet,” said a Facebook spokesperson in an emailed statement.
Right now, Facebook doesn’t run ads within the Explore Feed. The company’s spokesperson didn’t comment on whether Explore Feed will feature ads in the future, and whether brands will be able to target ads specifically to the feed.
